Rachel Podger and Tafelmusik ignite the quintessential spirit of the baroque in this program of music by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi and others.
Three continents meet when Tafelmusik and Rachel Podger take the works of European masters on tour to Asia before bringing them home to our Toronto audience.
The journey begins with an array of baroque treasures from Rachel’s native England: works by Handel, Purcell and Charles Avison. New to the Tafelmusik stage is an orchestral suite by the Bohemian composer Antonín Reichenauer, an enchanting dialogue between strings and winds. Vivaldi’s exuberant Concerto for four violins from L’Estro armonico transports us to shimmering Venice, a welcome respite from the winter chill.
No baroque blowout would be complete without the music of J.S. Bach, and who better to bring out the “infectiously spritely bounce and exhilarating dramatic tension” (BBC) of his Violin Concerto in A Minor than Rachel Podger?
